Welcome to the WLCS 25th Anniversary Blog!

Alright, so you're a former employee of the mighty WLCS- AM 910 in Baton Rouge LA... airstaff, sales, administration, what-have-you. OR maybe you're one of the generations of Baton Rougeans who grew up with the station and you've got some memories to share from the "output side"-- first time you heard an artist, crazy promotion, or a "where are they now?" question. That's what this blog is for... so please feel free to post away-- as long or as short as you please, as often as you'd like!

WLCS Radio became one for the ages on August 31, 1984, as it changed its calls to WXAM and its format to satellite-delivered "Stardust" music. We're here to celebrate what it meant in its heyday to everyone who enjoyed it in one way or the other-- and its history in Baton Rouge broadcasting. ENJOY!

  1. I would like to know who "The Chucker" was. He was the main guy I remembered from the late seventies. He was the fastest DJ I think I ever heard.

  2. Hey Larry! "The Chucker" was a guy by the name of "Doc" Thayer, and I remember him well too (as does most of Baton Rouge of that era, probably!). He's had an interesting career ride post-WLCS, into all sorts of things (all good, it appears... laugh), and currently owns a low-power FM station in Zephyrillis, FL (WZPH, "The Zephyr"), the claim to fame for which is that it appears to have set the record for the longest music set ever by an FCC-licensed facility.... seven years and counting. :)

  3. He's right here living and breathing in Lutz, Florida, U.S.A., Earth, Milky Way as he often states about his radio station in Zephryhills, Florida. He teaches math on more than one level(high school and college)and is involved with the weatherbug doing daily forecasts.

    1. Yep! Overlooking I-10 at College Drive (about where the Crowne Plaza hotel is now), which is where the dealer was. Long before I worked at WLCS, dad took me to SEE that!
